Innovative Teaching Methodologies to Gain The MBA EDGE

In education, student engagement refers to the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism, and passion that students show when they are learning or being taught, which extends to the level of motivation they have to learn and progress in their education. When students are engaged with the lesson being taught, they learn more and retain more. Students who are engaged in the work tend to persist more and find joy in completing the work.

Apart from the conventional “Chalk and Blackboard” method, faculty members in Dewan Institute of Management Studies, Department of MBA are encouraged to apply different innovative teaching techniques to improve the standard or quality of teaching.

Effective teaching is necessary for quality enhancement of the students and this can only be materialized by interactive sessions. Interactive session means two sided communication between the faculty and students.

Actually, all learners are different. However, most educational presentations and materials are the same for all. This creates a learning problem, by putting a burden on the learner to figure out how to engage with the content. It means that some learners will be bored, others will be lost, and very few are likely to discover paths through the content that result in optimal learning.

So, to overcome this problem and for making the lectures effective, innovative teaching methodologies are designed and applied to understand the target audience and collect information about their requirements, their strengths and weaknesses.

Presentations

In presentations, students are divided in groups and topics are distributed on one particular subject so that they can prepare the power-point slides on the given topic and can present the same in front of whole class, which make them more confident and good speakers.

Movie Analysis

Using inspirational movie in short chunks and showing at the most appropriate times can bump up the learning potential in our theories while increasing student interest and participation. Students not only enjoy the short moments of the movie but also learn the management and life lessons through movie analysis, which give them a boost and knowledge to analyze the situation with new perspective.

Case Studies

This guide explores the use of the case-based approach to support management education and, more specifically, their role in decision making related higher education courses. MBA department has conducted a number of case studies to include Starbucks, The Maggi Story and The Mensch of Malden Mills, which equipped students to understand and analyze the situation with their own perspective and come out with some out of the box solutions.

Management Games

Students are engagedin well-crafted management games, supporting one another, and growing as a learning community. It really sounds wonderful. MBA department conducts the games like “Talking in Circles”, “Human Knots”, “Train of Leadership”, etc. By using cooperative games, students will become critical thinkers, learn to work with one another, and apply these skills to accomplish team goals. Students learn about the importance of teamwork, as management games help students learn how individual efforts unite to help the team accomplish goals.

Role Play

Role-play is a technique that allows students to explore realistic situations by interacting with other people in a managed way in order to develop experience and try different strategies in a supported environment. Participants are given particular roles to play in a conversation or other interaction, such as an email exchange, typical of their discipline. They may be given specific instructions on how to act or what to say, as an aggressive client or patient in denial, for example, or required to act and react in their own way depending on the requirements of the exercise

Besides these fruitful strategies, debates, brainstorming, business plans, etc are also being inculcated in the curriculum as teaching pedagogy. These teaching strategies encourage students to use their imagination to dig deep when engaging with the content of the lesson. The students are actively involved with the learning and can work with their peers in collaborative groups to showcase their learning.

Accordingly, it is decided to keep the important& critical things into consideration for making the students more behavioral and practical.

For making the lecture session more interactive, sometimes students are encouraged to go to the black board for explaining different topics to boost them up, build up their confidence level and also to make them aware about their strengths and weaknesses such as communication skill, knowledge base and self-confidence.
